Tarantula Arms - The Sandwitches

Nostalgia for a time you can’t quite remember…

A great song I happened to uncover again recently off of the album “How to Make Ambient Sadcake.”  This whole album I’d say has is a strong blend of americana, lo-fi, and garage rockabilly. Upon first listening you almost want to instantly dismiss it as something worn and out of date because, in a way, it is. But what is really special about this album is that they took all of that and made something incredibly fresh dancing between playful and eerie. I totally recommend listening to the album for it’s entirety. You might be surprised how much this band wins you over.

Krazy Kings by Company Flow

A golden track of the 1996 album Funcrusher Plus, an oldie nowadays, but I can think of countless artist today who’ve pulled from or referenced this album. What’s really delicious is the original atmosphere that this album was produced in. A gritty underground and abrasive album in a age of big spending and luxury this album crossed paths violently with what was being made at the time. So much so that pretty much all the reviews at the time were wonderfully and aggressively polarized to one end or the other. And even more interesting still is the validation the album is able to manifest now more than ever, namely due to the trending mindless-ethos of the darker “hardcore” rap era.

So why don’t you educate yourself and check this album out. I mean, there are some beautiful things going on in this album if you take the time to find them.

The Bay of Future Passed by Mircofilm

Microfilm is a French post-rock melodramatic instrumental band. And I almost always have a soft spot for melodramatic instrumentals. They’re fun listening while your trying to get shit done.  Check them out.

Queen of the Fishermen by Tack, The Boy Disaster

They’ve been around for a while, but It’s always struck me as bizarre how little attention they ever got. Like, I was only able to find one live recording of this track on youtube, yeah. Anyways, this is great.

Track: Finger
Album: Melted
Artist: Ty Segall
Year: 2010

Hmm…Great music with that sort of fuck you effortlessness and little girls dancing ballet. Either way, this track and Ty Segall himself is bound to make a lasting impression on you and perhaps the only thing this album took special care to do was to make sure that it doesn’t give a damn whether or not that impression is good or bad (But I mean, isn’t that what garage punk is all about anyways?).
